Trademark registration is not only limited by the number of countries, but also the type of goods and services, for which the trademark is registered. Goods and services are divided into 45 categories, also called classes. In each class are goods or services that are similar or related, for example, textiles, chemicals, computer services. The fees for trademark registration increase with the number of classes, for which the trademark owner filed the trademark. Trademark owners usually register trademarks for 2-3 classes.
Categorizing goods and services into similar or related classes was unified at the global level by Nice Agreement concerning trademark classes.
